As printmakers who have been closed for most of 2020, we want to do something bold for our printmaking community post lockdown that will introduce as many people as possible to both printmaking and printmakers.
Our vision is to develop IPSWICH PRINTWEEK as new annual event to promote printmaking, engage our community with the artform and give local printmakers the opportunity to showcase their work here in Ipswich, as they can in Norwich and Cambridge.
Fortunately, we have booked the Whistler Gallery at DanceEast for May this year and as restrictions will be lifted by then, we are delighted to launch IPSWICH PRINTWEEK 2021, with an inaugural exhibition of printmaking that people can ‘actually’ attend from the 20th to 28th of May.
To take part, we are calling on printmakers from Ipswich and its surrounds to submit digital images of their work to our selection panel of printmakers, who will choose the final pieces to be displayed in the exhibition. There is an entry fee but as Dance East have agreed not to charge commission in the inaugural year, artists will get to keep the sale price.
As lead times are short this year, we will only be able to host an exhibition, but in 2022 we will have an extended programme with Open Studios, demonstrations, talks and opportunities for people to have a go at printmaking in and around the Ipswich area, as well as some work in schools and colleges.
