INDEPENDENT PRINTMAKING PRACTICE DIPLOMA (IPPD)

This course is perfect for anyone who wishes to develop their own printmaking practice from a standing start and is interested in establishing a career in the visual arts. Over a period of 4 months, you will be taken on an exploration of printmaking, where you will be guided through all the key printmaking techniques and be inspired by the work of other printmakers through both online research and at exhibitions. The following are the techniques which will be covered on the course:

  • Drypoint etching

  • Monoprint

  • Monotype

  • Multi block & reduction linocutting

  • Woodblock

  • Collograph

  • Screenprint

  • Papermaking

  • Colour-mixing

Starting with simple projects, you will build towards more complex and demanding ones that will test your capabilities and knowledge, underpinning your future practice.

As part of the course, you will visit at least one practicing printmaker. With a combination of one-to-one tuition in the studio, home practice, online tutorials and Zoom and WhatsApp group sessions, you will not only build a skill base in printmaking, but will learn how to communicate your ideas and concepts in the most effective way.

On completion of the course, you will have reached a standard of printmaking that will entitle you to use our facilities here at Tower Street on open access days (subject to availability) as an unsupported practitioner. You will also be eligible to exhibit a piece of your work in the  Ipswich Printweek Exhibition.
